300 g unsalted butter, diced
250 g sugar
370 g plain flour
1 vanilla bean
5 eggs
1 tblsp baking powder
70 ml milk
40 g cocoa powder
1 pinch salt
Icing
50 g dark chocolate, in pieces

Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease tin.

Put butter in metal bowl and run EXPERT programme 1 minute/speed 5 (without heating) to soften butter.

Add sugar, salt, eggs, flour, baking powder, 40 milk and contents of a vanilla bean and run PASTRY/CAKE programme. Put half the mixture into tin and leave other half in bowl.

Put cocoa powder and 30 ml milk in bowl and run PASTRY/CAKE programme again. Then put chocolate and milk mixture on top of cake mixture already in tin and swirl with a fork to create a marble effect.

Cook cake for 50 minutes at 180°C.  Before removing cake from oven, insert a skewer into centre. Cake is cooked when the skewer comes out clean. Turn out onto a cooking rack and leave to cool. Melt chocolate in clean bowl using EXPERT programme 10 minutes/speed 0/55°C and spread icing on cake. Eat as soon as icing has hardened.

Chef’s tip

You can add a fine dusting of castor sugar before serving.
