50 YEARS OF MAGIMIX IN AUSTRALIA

Fifty years ago, Australians welcomed something new into their kitchens - a food processor unlike anything else. It didn’t just chop and slice. It changed the way people cooked.

That something was Magimix. Born in France, raised in professional kitchens, and now a lifelong companion in homes across Australia. Half a century later, we’re still here - making machines that last, that inspire, and that quietly get on with the job while you enjoy the cooking (and the eating).

Where It All Began

In 1961, in a small French village in Burgundy, Pierre Verdun and Robert Comte sparked a culinary revolution. Their invention - one blade, one bowl, endless possibilities - was the world’s first food processor.

By 1963, the Robot Coupe was helping chefs in commercial kitchens across the globe. By 1971, Comte’s wife had persuaded him to design a smaller version for home cooks. And so, on March 1st, Magimix was born.

1975 – Bonjour, Australia

Four years later, Magimix crossed oceans and landed in Australia. Suddenly, Australian kitchens had access to the same professional-grade machine chefs relied on, but made perfectly for home.

It wasn’t just an appliance. It was a shortcut, a helping hand, and sometimes a family heirloom. Many Australians still tell us about their original Magimix - machines that have been whirring away happily for decades, and have become a treasured part of their kitchen.

Growing, Adapting, Innovating

From there, Magimix never stopped evolving:

  • 1980s: Multiple bowl sizes, whisks, and attachments to make cooking even simpler.
  • 1990s: Compact machines and our very first juicer.
  • 2000s: The world’s first see-through toaster (Vision), even catching Nigella’s eye.
  • 2010s: Quiet Mark accreditation and the launch of the Cook Expert—a multi-cooker that can handle 14 different appliances in one.

Every innovation kept the same promise: simple, efficient, long-lasting.

Built Better to Last Longer

While other brands built products to replace, Magimix built products to keep. Every Food Processor is still handmade in France, with Sabatier stainless-steel blades and a motor guaranteed for 30 years. There's a phrase "they don't make them like they used to", espeically when talking about appliances. But with Magimix, that's not the case - we still make our Food Processors by hand in the same factory for over 50 years.

It’s why so many Australians still have the same Magimix they bought decades ago. And why we still hear stories of Magimix machines that travelled halfway around the world with their owners - because once you’ve cooked with one, you never want to be without it.

Did you know? You can see the date of which your Food Processor was made, and who made it by looking at the sticker on the bottom of your machine!

MAGIMIX STORIES

Some kitchen stories are too good not to share. Over the past 50 years in Australia, Magimix has become more than just an appliance - it’s been a companion that’s travelled across the world, and a helping hand that’s seen families grow.

Here are a few incredible stories from people who’ve been cooking with their Magimix for 40+ years (and counting!).

Robyn - Magimix Grand Famille circa 1985
"It was delivered into our family as one of three ‘triplets’. Each purchased by our mother, as a gift, one to our family, one for my sister’s family and one for our Mum. It arrived at a time when my sister and I both had infants and were very much adjusting to life out of the workforce and at home.

I vividly recall the fist few days with my new gift. Anything in the kitchen that could be sliced, chopped, blended, mixed, crumbed or pulsed with one of the blade accessories was gleefully processed. This model is a large machine with a very strong motor and is perfect for a growing family. It has been at the heart of preparation of salads, slaws, soups, bread, and has saved many hours of work making food preparation easy and providing healthy home processed meals. I now have additional blades purchased over time and inherited from my sister when her machine finally had to be retired, due to frequent overuse in her home catering business and with a growing household of 4 children. Our children are all grown and out of home.

My machine has stood the test of time and is still in use. As far as I can recall my Mother’s machine was also still working well when she moved into a smaller unit and had little space or need for such a big machine. It may well have outlasted her in the home of a relative.

I expect to have several more years use out of this machine so it might even make 50yrs and end up in a museum somewhere."

Hugh - Magimix 2000
"I paid 109 pounds sterling for my Magimix back in 1981. When I learned that the Magimix bowls were made with the same material as the Apollo helmets sent to the moon, I was convinced to make the purchase. After having used it for over 40 years, I thought it could be time for retirement. Magimix Australia worked their magic and replaced a few parts, and now I can use it for another 40+ years."
